A Fed Bear is a Dead Bear

We have had an increased incidence of bear activity in our neighborhood. Many homeowners are putting their trash out prior to trash day and then leaving the area, illegally leaving their cans outside. This a violation of North Star CCRs and also of Summit County Ordinance. Garbage cans may only be out for a maximum of 24 hours and MUST be stored indoors during all seasons.

Garbage attracts bears and other wildlife and endangers your neighbors who are outside. Bears have good memories and will return to an area where they have easily been able to find food. When this happens, it endangers all involved – both the bear who becomes habituated to humans and the humans in the area.

If you see any garbage cans that have been knocked over garbage scattered about, please contact an HOA board member so we may issue a fine to the offender. This also goes for cans that are being stored outside.

You may call 970-824-6501, Wildlife Dispatch, and the Sheriff’s Office to make a report of wildlife getting into garbage as feeding wildlife is against the law.

Please remember: Keeping wildlife wild is your responsibility.
